Once upon a time I was able to get DX (D3D) to put up debug messages, all objects not released for example. Now, I could remember how to get it to work. Does anyone one have an idea? I''m using DX9 by the way. Thanks.

You need to be running the Debug Runtime. You can enable this by clicking on the DirectX icon in Control Panel. Then click on the Direct3D tab. Make sure that you''ve selected the Debug Runtime and that the Debug Output Level is at the maximum.

One problem is that there is no DX Icon in the Control Panel for me. I tried to reinstall the SDK but doesn''t show up either.

You must install a version of the sdk that is at least as current if not more current than the runtime DirectX that your machine has.

For example. The most recent DX runtime released is 9.0b. That means that you need to install the DirectX SDK 9.0b or greater. You should really install the most current SDK, which is DirectX SDK Update (Summer 2003). If you have an older SDK than the DirectX runtime, you won''t get the DirectX icon in your Control Panel.

Assuming you have the most current SDK, you need to make sure that when you install it, you specifically check to see that it will install the Debug Runtime. This option may not be selected by the default install. Once you install the Debug Runtime, you will be able to easily switch between Debug and Retail runtimes using the Control Panel.

I also recomend that you install the DirectX Extensions for Visual Studio if you''re using VS 6 or VS .NET.
