I''d like to create a super basic GUI --- that could compile and run on any platform. Right now, all I want is a message box or something. I want to create a windowing library that I can use in my projects that will run under Linux or Windows or Mac, etc. Language independent -- no particulars necessarily. I just would like to know some theory on creating a messagebox library that could run under any OS -- in theory. How do things like WindowsMX work? Thanks.
I am not worthy of a sig! ;)

I''m going to be unclear:

class GUI
{
virtual void init() = 0;
virtual void destroy() = 0;
};

class WinGUI
{
void init();
};
WinGUI::init()
{
//...
}

GUI *gui;
WinGUI *wingui= gui;

Thats roughly what you will need to do in C++.

If you need platform-independant GUI, use Java.

wxWidgets is a good option if you want C++. Otherwise you''d have to learn the code for every system you wanted your code to compile on.
