When multitexturing is enabled for an object... do all other objects that use one texture need to use the glMultitexCoordARB() and select the texture unit glActiveTexture(GL_TEXTURE0)? or can they use the standard glTExCoord2f() and glBindTexture() things???

you have to disable all other units and select unit0, then just do as usual.
