I bought this "thing" like few days ago and it's total crap. The cursor can't keep up and occacionaly it freezes for a second and it drops the frame rate of the exploer. Any ideas how fix this. Thanks in advance! [edited by - Orochimaru on May 14, 2004 4:59:57 AM]

Exchange it for a working mouse.

Did you get it in conjuction with a cordless keyboard. If you get a wireless optical mouse by itself, they''re normally good, get it with a keyboard and it''s a piece of shit.

Yup! it was keyboard/mouse combo. So there is no cure then?

I''d recommend getting a cord optical mouse. All the wireless ones I''ve ever used have had jerkiness problems, with and without a wireless keyboard. Plus changing batteries gets annoying after a while (although I guess you could go with a wireless mouse that has a docking station).

I have one of those, it works beatifully and doesn''t skip and crap up like all the optical rodents I have ever tried. It''s considerably more precise

I''m gonna take a wild punt here - was it a Creative Desktop Wireless keyboard/mouse combo? I''ve got one of those, and it''s definitely noticeably laggy compared to a wired mouse. Very much teh suxxor for RTS games. Easiest tip (probably will work for any mouse with a USB dongle wireless receiver thingy) is to put the receiver right up near your mouse mat. That, and make sure the batteries are fully charged. Mine slowly gets more and more laggy until I get too irritated and change the batteries (el cheapo, runs on AAs instead of having it''s own LiIon battery)

All optical mice I''ve encountered have been noticeably better than all ball mice I''ve used. The latter go to crap pretty quickly when they get dirty, but even after cleaning they''re not as smooth for me.

All the optical mice I''v ever had are far far more precise and just have a better feel to working with them than even the best ball mice I''v used. Plus, cleaning a ball mouse after awhile can be a pain, and adds yed another computer maintenance item that normal users never do but always complain about the problems.

Them: "My mouse doesn''t work right"
Me: "How so?"
Them: "The cursor doesn''t always move"
Me: "Have you ever cleaned it?"
Them: "Clean it?"

See where I''m going with this?

Personally I''m against wireless mouses and keyboards. That is, as long as batteries are as crappy as today and technology really can''t find a way to store much, MUCH, more power in a small location, I''ll find anything that uses batteries crappy, unless there''s no way around it (my GSM for example)

wireless devices all blow. just get yourself a GOOD optical mouse with a wire. its worth the money.

I pretty much agree.

Have you tried placing the base sation nearer to the mouse?

I sometimes have problems with lousy responce, but I can often fix it by moving my base station nearer to the mouse..

Edit: I have a Logitech Cordless Desktop MX and I would to any day recomend it, the only problem I have the porblem with slow response time is that my desktop is so small that I have to place the receiver right under the monitor..

Ditch the wireless keyboard too. It is a security risk Anyways, I could not have a wireless mouse. I loose anything not tethered to my computer...

Oh, and optical is better than a ball mouse. I used to be a ball mouse zealot, ranting about how stupid optical mice were... (but hey, I said the same thing about winxp too )

The wired optical mice are the best possible mice. The opticals are extremely accurate and work well as long as you don''t throw them around really really fast. Normally I play games with high sensitivity and in general, my system sensitivity is high, so I don''t care.

Wireless mice of all types suck. Especially if you have a CRT...how can you expect an RF transmitter to work when you have a big CRT generating a massive EM field right in front of you?

I have about 6 wireless keyboard and mouse sets in my house from turst, All work 100% never had any problems, instant response times, and no docking station, it comes with a usb cord so if i forget to charge it, i can plug the cable into the front on the mouse, and plug it in to the usb socket at the front of the pc, so i can charge and use at the same time

all 100% file, all perfect!

You really just need to change the placement of the reciever.

Besides, the wireless optical mice give you a nice headbuzz if you stare into it for a bit.
