Have there been any studies into what causes deja vu? Is it just a messup that happens in the brain for a brief second?

Deja vu is so bloody annoying. Hardly a day goes by that I don't get a bizarre feeling that I've been in some situation before. I think I'm somewhat insane.

A lot of the time, I'm positive that I've experienced something completely identical in a dream before. It's very disconcerting.

One theory, is that your brain processes an event; something goes wrong, it is processed again to make up for this, and you get the feeling you remember it from somewhere...

...

That ''somewhere'' being a fraction of a second ago, but since it processed wrong, you don''t activly remember it. But your memory still returns that nagging sense that it SHOULD be down there, somewhere.

what it is, since the universe has a finite life, and many yet finite number of races throughout the galaxies, we can only be reincarnated so many times.. odds are many of us have lived the same lives two or three times.

Or.. those who experience dejavu means those who have committed suicide in our previous life and are forced to relive it until we grow and move on from that.

Not true. Time may be finite, but the size of the galaxy isn''t. Thus, there can be infinite species.

Off course, time flows forward, and you can only reincarnate so many times before ending up at the end of time. But still.

What is this "previous life" crap? Even assuming that reincarnation is what happens when you die, the odds of experiencing two separate events that are so similar that they seem identical is infinitesimally small.

And if you say that we must have experienced the same things twice in an infinite span of lives, I challenge you to explain how we store an infinite amount of memories and can access them at unusual times.

If you want a mystical sort of explanation, I would put forth precognition.

In my experience, deja vu is the result of having dreamed of an event before it happens. I have talked to others that have the same type of experience.

Or maybe it''s just a glitch in the brain.

No im sure that the Deja vu that i get cannot be a glitch in the system.

I dont know it just feels that I was there and I know what is going to happen. very strange. But i am sure its not a glitch in my brain.

Why? It seems highly unlikely that the brain stores exact, detailed information. If only abstractions and generalizations are stored, then it seems very likely for an ''identical''(when comparing only the stored abstractions and generalizations of each) event to happen, even in a single lifetime.

It is (probably provably) possible for a system to malfunction in such a way that any self-test returns that the system is working correctly when in fact it is not, so how can you be sure a ''glitch'' in your brain is not responsible for any feelings of deja vu you experience?

That''s the lastest cientifical oppinion I heared about it.

As a personal comment, I very often experience a "sort" of deja vu. It happens to me that sometimes I have a conversation with someone, and some time after that, when I remember that conversation I can''t really tell if that was the first time I had that conversation... Like if my brain had a sort of "double" linking to that recall.

Maybe it''s a personal thing, but the feelings of deja vu are very specific. It''s not like "I''ve been doing something like this before", it''s like "I''ve been in this room, talking to this friend of mine about this topic, and he said this particular strange thing to me". It could be that I''m remembering something like this from a previous life and my brain is just pretending that I''ve seen the rest before, but then why complicate the issue by saying that it''s from a previous life at all? My brain is probably just making it all up.

... or I saw it in a dream, which I''m tempted to believe.

I get deja vu like 3-5 times a week. Sometimes I''ll be in a particular situation or I''ll hear or see something that I swear I''ve experienced before in a dream.

Deja vu starts to happen when you've been trapped in a time loop for several octillion iterations or so, and is a sign that you need to find a way to break out of the loop before it happens again. Destroying the planet is a pretty safe bet that you'll stop whatever will cause time to repeat itself, but sometime you'll find you need to take out the entire galaxy, and rarely the entire universe. Taking out the entire universe may seem drastic, but it's better than listening to some ass brag about how much bigger is balls are than yours for another nonillion times. On the otherhand, you can use use it to your advantage. You can run around the streets naked, jump off a cliff, or stab that ass in the eye, knowing fully well that when the time loop repeats, you'll be safe and sound but experiencing a stange sense of deja vu.

Chess is played by three people. Two people play the game; the third provides moral support for the pawns. The object of the game is to kill your opponent by flinging captured pieces at his head. Since the only piece that can be killed is a pawn, the two armies agree to meet in a pawn-infested area (or even a pawn shop) and kill as many pawns as possible in the crossfire. If the game goes on for an hour, one player may legally attempt to gouge out the other

Only 3-5 times a week? I get it 3-5 times a day! It's probably just some chemical inbalance or something.
