good firewall software ?

yes, the topic says it all. i''m looking out for a really good firewall, until today i used zonealarm personal edition and since i''ve heard - several times now - that it is really shitty, i decided to do a product change, even with paying if necessary, but not too much, as you can guess. can anyone give me a good hint ? does $40 sounds like too much?

just get yourself one of those routers, and don''t forward any ports.

Then install virus scanner software, and you''re safe.

i read, there are viruses and trojaners which are disabling it; furthermore, several german newspaper didn''t judge it very positive.
and: it fails on my machine, since some month - i have this nasty bug, which occurs at each start time: i have a new system log entry, saying that the database is destructed and so on; i followed the plan from the support, which means deleting distinct files ect., but it didn''t work for me - each time i restart my machine, i have the same error

The Sygate Personal Firewall has a far better interface than ZoneAlarm. Although it''s been around for a while and might have vulnerabilities too. The Kerio Personal Firewall looks interesting. The release date shows that it''s very new.
