Realistic hand
Hi. I''m a 3ds max user, and i have a big problem.. i can''t model realistic hands! i tried everything, but i really can''t make a good model... someone can please send me an hand model ????
Study the anatomy of a hand. Find out how the bones fit together, and find out how muscles and tendons animate the hand.
You have two of them, so study them. ;)
I'm quite serious too.

There are quite a few free hands that you can use to study...

and many more.
They were quite easy to find so I might be missing something.
P.S. I have no idea about modelling but I know hands are tricky to draw even though I have 2 hands for reference.

Man! I *so* posted this a year ago and nobody would reply to me... :( I got so fed up that I just stopped. I made some other stuff instead, but I always wanted that hand...
Drevay - lol. You're quite right, though, but for some reason I just never quite got it with hands.

gsgraham.comSo, no, zebras are not causing hurricanes.
I, myself am working on a hand model right now. If I had a website, I would definitely post it for you. Basically, you just need to make cylinders with domical tips for fingertips. Gloves are much easier than hands because you can make approximate shapes and they don't have to be exact.

Try using a box with seven segments on the top of the box for the fingers thats one for each finger and a gap for the spaces inbetween. Converting to a mesh and using the extrude feature from the rollout will help create the joints for the fingers.
Take your left hand and put the fingers together so their facing away from you and pointing strait up then take your thumb and and point it strait out to the left. I know it's 'L' for loser but hey thats just a coincedence and I'll give ya a break cause hands are hard to model realistically the trouble real is perportions and it takes time to do it.
You also want at least two to three segments on the side of the box. For the box dimensions use your own and measure it to make sure the ratio is the same with your modeled box this will also make it more realistic. If you are not going to use an actual picture as the material for the hand and intend to model the skin lines then I would suggest putting a lot of time aside. If you tell me more about how detailed your looking for I could model one for you and post it on my site.
After you have the fingers extruded and positioned there is a tool I believe its called Tessellate tool for meshes. I haven't used this feature but I believe thats the one if anyone knows what I'm talking about please correct me if I'm wrong. And then use a mesh smooth modfier just to be sure everything comes out right and you should be in business with a hand model.
