Can't get System Shock 2 to work right : help me please

I have a p2 400, 128 ram, ATI All-In-Wonder Pro, Wicked 3d Voodoo2 - yet System Shock 2 only allows me too choose 640x480 8 bit in the Video selection menu. I have Direct X 6.1 intalled, and have no similar problem with any other game, Thief works fine. Any ideas?
