Has the US learnt anything? All the politicans at capital hill have forgotten their history lessons - oh but wait, there are no history lessons in the US. I invite everyone to put their opinions forware LOGICALLY and RATIONALLY. To be more exact, do you think that the US is going to get a major shock with in the next 50 years in terms of: economic power, military power, influence in the world, and MOST IMPORTANTLY PERCIEVED influence in the world. REMEMBER - LOGICAL. No flames, please. Think of this as an debate, not a shouting contest (tho that would be good )

you''re missing something
you have to sepcify that you''re asking all that from the US people only
here in tiberia we never have those problems

I beleive we (USA) will be a major world power in 50 years in almost all of those issues you described except perceived greatness in the world, because the third world countries (which I'm sorry to say, and not a flame, there are many of) blame there poorness on the U.S.

Military power will probably be very high, assuming we stop sending so many troops to places that don't hold military or economic interests, only political. For example, my dad was in East Timor at the time of the crisis and was there for 4 months. I beleive we only went to East Timor to prove that we were friendly, etc, and was a waste of military power. It weakens and destroys our forces. Let them sort their own problems out.

Economic power will also be high, I believe because of computers. We create tons of computer stuff each year, and its only going to get better. Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, Microsoft, IBM etc, will be bringing in tons of revenue for us. Japan and the US, and I beleive China (yes, China) are going to be three major world economic powers in the next 50 years, unless Russia gets its act together, which is possible, but I doubt it.

Well that's my view. PS: A shouting war would not be good. We need some smart stuff to be flying around here.

i dont think russia can go back to one of the major world powers anymore. they''re just too restricted. and that US has now control over ''em and is probably trying it''s best to keep them from growing back.

and i think US, Japan and China ARE the major ones so far (china only for industry tho) but there are still other contries that you have to count too:
Israel (well, we count that as a part of US anyways)
Germany (they''re not as great as they were before. but they still have power)
Tiberia: beware, one o those Mammoth Mark II''s can destroy NYC in an hour

Actually what I meant to say (not good at commication am I ) was what people who are very left/right in the political landscape think, aka webspynner_99, who seems to think that the US is the greatest thing since ''sliced bread) (is that the right quote? ). Obvisiously he is misguided(Come on webspynner_99, read the thread, and flame away...) because in each of these wars, (which was discussed in the ''Downright Sick'' thread) (i quote)'' WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Panama, Gulf War, Bosnia, Kosovo. Why were we even there? I''ll tell you why, because we''re nice guys and we came to aid when we were asked. You all think we''re a bunch of aggressive, blood-thirsty war-mongers. If we are, how many times has our aggressivness saved the rest of the world?'' Which is blatantly false, in WWI all the US did was wait till the last minute, then rush in with fresh troops to insure the US being hailed as the greatest nation in the world. WWII - I quote again in from ''Downright Sick thread'' -
to save your asses, do you think Hitler would have stopped at Europe ? and by the way you waited hell of of lot too long before implicating yourselves, only when faced with imminent threat did you decide to join the war, and while other countries had depleted their forces, you cowards with your fresh armies swept the battlefields, just like in WWI
Gulf War - You fought for Oil ! and forced Canada to do so, we only offered minimal help because of NATO and all that shit, in that war you helped and evil tyrant from Koweit who sold you oil against an evil tyrant from Iraq who didnt sell you oil ! See the point ?

Korea, Vietnam - the US didn''t even win. It was a loss, in Vietnam''s case, and a draw in Korea''s.

Flame away, but flame LOGICALLY, please.

I aggree with you on the question: "Why were at these wars?", however, WWII and the Gulf war I''m SURE were important. I don''t know the exact reason we fought on the European front in WWII, but I can see why we fought Japan - they bombed the crap out of us!

The Gulf war was definitly important. Saddam Heusen (or whatever) invaded Kuwait, I think, and was trying to take over. Guess what? Saddam hates the US, and Kuwait was, and still is, a major source of our oil. (By the way, oil == life nowadays) Had we not fought the Gulf war, we probably would have lost a major source of oil, which would have been a "bad thing", in the words of Mr.Carmack.

That''s my opinion, and it better be yours now, too. Haha.
PS: We won the gulf war in about 1-2 months, I think.

I think that in the next 10-25 years B. Clinton will try and be president of not only the U.S. but the entire world... Think about it... He paid 2 different countrys 40 billion each (or something like that) just to stop them from fighting each other... I think that his master plan is too take over the world...

Hitler declared war on the US and the Allies agreed that Hitler was more of a threat (mainly because the US was the only one in quarell with the Japs at the time). So the US joined the European front and fought in the Pacific.

As for who will be a major power: the US, Japan, and perhaps, if Europe gets its act together, they will become a unified power, until then the US is the biggest one and China is a poverty stricken state which will fall apart in about 50 years give or take a few years (like the U.S.S.R fell apart).

i think that the question is not how US will be in 50 years, but if will be an US in 50 years. the biggest of all wars is coming, the bad guys are already positioned, and this war will diferent of all wars before it and it will reshape the world, well at least was what Nostradamus said, and he never missed one...

You all are really underestimating China.

If anyone saw the Mike Wallace interview with the Chinese president on 60 minutes, the fact that China has been progressing a lot lately was mutually affirmed by both the Chinese president and the collective staff of 60 minutes....

...of course, that isn't saying much.

And by the way, i before e except after c... (percieved)
