Resizing?

I know photoshop doesn't work well for this. But I mean for like a wallpaper. If you make a wallpaper at 1024x768, is there a way to resize to bigger screens without sacrificing quality of the picture?
I'm sorry but I don't really think there is without retouching up everything, That's why usually you work on backgrounds at a much higher resolution (I prefer 4000 x 3000) and size down at then end, this way it looks better and you can make multiple resolutions with the same great quality. =)

Depending on the kind of interpolation used, there will always be a blurring or a sharpenning effect. I have heard about fractal resizing, but I dont know how it works.

For a wallpaper, since the scale factor is usually not really big (>2.0), I think even a simple bilinear interpolation should give reasonnable quality.
Depending on the image, there are plugins and filters you can run on the image to increase resolution.

I once converted a 300x150 manga series to a 640x330 set, with really good results. I think I used some kind of smooth filter. It Reduced the size of edges of dark lines, filling it with the color of the data around them. It looked just as good as if it were drawn at that size. I'm sorry I can't remember the name of it, and I'm not sure if it was a built in plugin or something I downloaded.
Vector-based art will let you resize without sacrificing anything. Of course, so will pixel art :)

Jiia, maybe Bicubic Smoother, assuming your using Photoshop CS?

One technique to try is to increase the resolution of the image in several steps, instead of just going from 320x200 to 1024x768. Increase the size by, say, 5 or 10 percent increments until you reach your target size. Tedious, but by doing incremental resampling you sometimes get a less blurred image.

Fractal interpolation -- Pretty neat, never heard of it until now. Seems that a program called Genuine Fractals does this, as a stand alone or plugin for Photoshop. Kinda pricey, though.

lol. Yes, I've done that before. Couldn't figure out what it was doing.
