d3d compiler problems

I use vc98 with the DX-SDK 7. I wrote a very simple game (testing app) using DirectDraw, and it works correctly. Well, now I want to implement some simple alpha-blending fx and want to use d3d. I included d3d.h and d3dtypes.h (and all files ddraw needs) and linked d3dim.lib. The problem is: if I use IDirect3D7, the compiler tells me it does not know it, and if I use IDirect3D2, a debug error occurs (debug cfg) or the program hangs up after getting fullscreen (release cfg). How can I solve this problem? Well, it would be enough if someone could tell about other techniques to perform an alphablend. OregonGhost

For using D3D7 you need to create DD7 by DirectDrawCreateEx () function .... And you need to retrive pointer to D3D7 interface by QueryInterface () method... - Does you do it?

Are you sure you have the include directories set up ok? Make sure that the dx sdk include directory is at the *top* of the list in the directories option. Otherwise, it''ll use the DX5 headers.

I can't use the QueryInterface function if the compiler does not know IDirect3D7.

And the include files... I overwrote the old dx5 files with the new ones. So the compiler CANNOT use them.

That does not solve my problem.

The compiler does not know LPDIRECT3D7, but ... the IDE does!
(I mean that a list of the members appear after writing a ->).
As there aren't any older headers on my system, the compiler MUST USE the dx7 files, but again it doesn't know the new interfaces...

Well, does anyone know a tutorial about alphablending WITHOUT d3d? That would be enough.

Go to the "Previously Featured Articles" section of this site and look for the "MMX Enhanced Alpha-Blending article" .

To take advantage of QueryInterface(IID_Idirect3D7) you have to include DXGUID.LIB in you program.
