Is anyone else having problems with the installer? The .msi file doesn't work right for me and all of the managed samples throw an exception.

It now has a GUI framework AND C# scripting engine?

How did I miss this?

Why not just go to somewhere with broadband and snap it in 10 minutes? (I mean, life is too short for doing such downloads on 56K)

Ok, here's the first problem with the summer 2004 update:

I can't load my x-files (exported from Milkshape 3D) anymore

D3DX: 3514: syntax error near "0"D3DX: Parse error.D3DXLoadMeshFromX() failed!Error: D3DXFERR_PARSEERRORD3DX: 1337: syntax error near "0"

I created my Direct3D object using the D3D9b_SDK_VERSION, because I don't want to take advantage of the new 9.0c features. Or should I stay with the summer 2003 update in this case?

Seriously? That's harsh.

In reality, how many proffesional game developers still use VC6?
More than I thought actually. Saw a lot of "complaints" about this sort of thing during the beta. You can still get it to work with VC6 mind, just it's no longer official/you're-on-your-own...

Is there an easy way to tell if your graphics card is compatible with DirectX 9c? I was developing a game on my laptop at home and trying it on my works PC. I had the Summer Update 2003 SDK installed and when I compiled my programs it worked at home (GeForce 2) and at work (integrated Intel 82845G 64MB). But now I have installed the Summer Update 2004 SDK my game only works at home... everything recompiled without any problems with the new SDK installed. I fully uninstalled the old SDK before installing the new one etc. I have even installed the DX 9c end user runtime on my works PC also... Why would it suddenly stop working on one system?

So download the completely free .Net Compiler. Problem solved.

That's mildly amusing.

Why not? You don't lose anything with this version over the previous version.

Removal of DirectPlay from the SDK (nobody uses it anyways)

So does that mean DirectPlay is dead like DirectDraw? Is it no longer being developed? Or are they just changing it.
Etnu
Etnu
It's dead. Nobody uses it anyway, really, and MS would rather just focus on core windows networking technologies that have applications outside of Direct X. There are other things besides games that require high-performance network connections.

WTF!? No more VC 6.0 and:

Quote:

Use of DirectDraw is no longer recommended. With the release of DirectX 9.0 all 2D functionality is contained within Direct3D and it's associated helper functions in Direct3D extensions (D3DX).

Fu*king MS!

EDIT: "AppWizards were removed." !? Why? I don't get it...
