Dear fellow programmers!!! I am wondering how you can replace or alter existing controls like the scrollbar or the system menu or the titlebar? Let say i would like to add a button to the titlebar or an element to the system menu or paint stripes on all controls? Okey, i know how to do this in my own application, but not throughout the whole system. What i would like is that all programs on my computer get that extra alternative in its system menu, get that extra button on its title bar and get those stripes (for example). So how would one go about to achive this? com objects, hooks, services... i read somwhere about remote hooks that listen through the system, maybe it can be solved that way? Any ideas, links or tutorials are appreciated!! // Peter...

You mean like StarDock WindowBlinds? If you have Windows XP and just want to design your own skins (and not start adding new buttons here and there) you can look into getting styleXP and running their SkinStudio. There's some site called themexp.org or xptheme.org or something like that with a community based around styleXP. And if you want to combine the skinning with actually adding new buttons, then look for some tutorials on "windows shell extensions".

Oh yeah, actually coding a Windows skinning app yourself. Ya might want to check out sourceforge to see if they've got any open source programs to do this - maybe you could find out how it's done. That's about all I know on this subject, though.

Thanx for your advice...

...i will look into both sourceforge and windowblinds.
