Hi everyone! Finally, we managed to upload a small demo of our upcoming freeware jump'n'run game called "Atomic Butcher". You can download the game here. Since the archive above doesn't contain any music, you can retrieve the score from this link (it's optional, though, so you don't have to download it to get the game running). Please post any comments you have, especially bug reports. The readme file explains everything you ought to know, if there are any questions, just press F1 during the game (this opens a help screen). This is our first game going to be completed (hopefully) in the nearer future, so please don't be too harsh on us ;) Sorry, there are no screenshots available yet, and the same goes for the website (which is still just not existent), we'll try to catch up on this one as soon as possible. Basically, you can expect a game with controls similar to 'Abuse' (moving around using the keyboard, aiming with the mouse). Thanks in advance for testing the game. I hope you enjoy playing it as much as we did creating it. edit: fixed the links [Edited by - Indeterminatus on September 5, 2004 7:47:49 PM]

Pretty fun game! :) Is the first weapon radioactive "pis"? lol

I notice a big difference between the quality of the menu graphics and the graphics of the game... Make the menu uglier or the game prettier, because the pretty menu made me expect better graphics in the game.

EDIT: Pack the demo as ZIP because many people doesn't own RAR and won't be able to test your game!

Yes, it is supposed to be radioactive piss. ;)
For the graphics: I know they are a bit patchwork-like and not too professional in general, but, what can I say...we don't have a lead artist (or any kind of graphics-artist at all, for that matter ;) )...I don't think it's too bad for programmer-art however...

Oh, and yes, teh rar-filex00rs are superior ;) I decided to use it because the difference is more than 1 MB, and I wanted to make the download as small as possible...but whatever, I'm going to put up a zip-version...

Thanks for the feedback!

i thing i found a bug. when you get killed everything goes slow motion. if you escape to the main manu then load a game everything still is slowed.

i walked thru the first level and i rather enyoed it, but it needs:
- more types of enemies (i counted 3: gnomes, cacoons and a fly ;)
- different sounds (a just wanted him to stop saying 'ooh' every time he jump)
- better graphics, slope tiles.

so i would give it 6 points in scale of 10 ;)

performance report:
goes smooth on duron 800 with radeon 8500, under windows xp.

good work !

Oh, thanks for finding the bug, we didn't know about that one...

About the enemies:

Don't worry, there will be more than enough in the final version...so far we have 25 different ones and we've almost finished level 6 of 9, so there probably will be some more to come (of course, don't expect anything like a good AI or something...it IS an oldschool jump'n'run after all...)

About the graphics:
Well, this is programmer's art, what can I say...it's the best we could come up with, hopefully we will find a graphics artist for future projects. Sloped tiles are simply not possible with our current "engine", but well, it's our first game, and we already learned so much doing it... rest assured that future releases will be much better...

Hm...the sounds...well, we'll look into it...

Thanks for the review!
