Printing Articles

The printer-friendly articles don't seem to print quite right. The right margin cuts off a word or so. I've tried changing margin settings and paper selection (I use A4 by default) but it doesn't help. The preview also shows the truncation. This gets really annoying as I find myself having to guess at the missing words. ANyway to fix this?

Which articles are you having this problem with? I've tested many of them without any problems.

Every one I've printed. The latest was the one on Quad Trees The last half word or so gets chopped.

Hey, he's right. Using Firefox, if I go to the page he linked to and click Print Preview, it clearly shows the last few characters of each line being cut off.

I've had this problem for a while but with most web pages I try to print. Using firefox I can usually get around the problem by changing the scale in the print preview window. Often I find the easist way is to open the page in Adobe Acrobat and print it as a PDF.

You have to have the full version of acrobat, not the reader, then you have a number of options of how to create the pdf, one of them being from a web page. It asks you for the URL.

Alternatively you can use a 3rd party pdf utility like pdf995 which can be found at www.pdf995.com

I've had this problem with 2/3 of the recent articles, both in IE and FireFox. In the end I've just taken to printing them out landscape.

I really don't want to have to do that as I need to file them. I'm sure one of the staff can sort this problem out.

I have this problem with every article (as far as I can remember). I use Netscape on Linux. Using Konqueror they print fine though.

Hmmm...I think we've stumbled onto one of gamedev.net's dark little secrets. I hope our accounts don't "mysteriously" disappear! lol

In general, no. There's no quick fix I can make that will make all of the articles print correctly. From what I can tell, this is caused by articles that have preformatted text or images that are wider than the print margins. For whatever reasons, some browsers cut off lines that aren't too wide as well as the ones that are. If you can point me to individual articles that cause this problem, I can fix them, but I don't have time to go through all the articles looking for problems.

The Quadtree article has been fixed, btw.
