Donkey Kong Remake Wanted
Xing Interactive are looking to commission a classic Donkey Kong remake. For this title we reserve milestone payments as well as royalties over future sales when the game hits retail. If you are interested in programming this title then please contact Alex de Vries at alex@xinginteractive.nl.
Of course you could think of Donkey Kong as a rip off of King Kong...
They already went through that legal battle. Besides the movie company not actually owning the rights to King Kong, Kong is a generic name given to gorilla.
So calling a character Pinky Kong or Super Kong, while similar to the Donkey Kong and King Kong "trademarks", should not actually infringe since Kong is not trademarkable...IANAL and may be wrong.

IIRC, the reason it's called Kong, is because in Japanese, Kong means gorilla(or some other primate)

I read something about it the other day...
"Kong" was chosen because of its similarity to King Kong. "Donkey" was chosen because their English dictionaries said "donkey" meant foolish or stupid.
"Kong" isn't even a word in Japanese. It roots into various terms for marriage, adultery, and hard work, but definitely isn't a word on its own, nor does it mean gorilla. Unless, of course, Jim Breen's dictionary is wrong.
