Hi. I have a Compaq Presario SR1123WM. I am looking to sell it, and was wondering exactly where I can sell it. It has a lot of software installed on it. Here's the specs: Compaq Presario 17" flat screen monitor Intel Celeron D Processor 330 2.66 GHz 256 MB DDR SDRAM Built-in (DVD+RW/CD-RW) 80 GB hard drive 9-in-1 memory card reader Integrated 10/100Base-T networking interface Integrated Intel Extreme Graphics with up to 64 MB shared video memory High speed V.92 56K flex modem Presario USB powered analog speakers Compaq keyboard, scroller mouse Available Slots: 2 PCI Available External Ports: 5 USB 2.0; one serial; one parallel Available Bays: one 5.25" It has Windows XP Home installed, and Windows XP Professional, yeah, its a dual boot. It also has Linux Red Hat 8.0 installed. I am also installing Dev-C++, a bunch of 3D modeling software, etc... Can anyone help me out here? The asking price is: $475 + Shipping Thats over a hundred dollars in savings there, of course, its used and dosent have the instructions or original box... Note it varies from the picture above, as this is a newer picture from a website carrying a newer model.

This is not ebay, this has nothing to do with "game programming". The only place this minutely woulf fit would be in the GDNet lounge, and just the question itself.

Selling it with software included would constitute a transfer of ownership or licence of said software ("resale") which may not be legal for some commercial apps - check the licencsing agreements of the software.

I'm more confused by the fact that this underpowered PC with sub-par graphics hardware is supposed to be "good for game developers."

FYI you would be lucky to see $250 for that machine. I hate to break it to you but used desktops are virtually worthless compared to what you pay for them. Just go look on ebay and you will see higher spec machines than that one for a lot less than you are asking.

Also.. you are trying to sell a machine with 'Intel Extreme Graphics' to a game developer? lol? :) You realize there is no AGP port on that motherboard and you can never upgrade the video.. so you are basically stuck with graphics module that is lucky to render at 5fps.

And apparently you dont know that you can add a PCI based board to it, do you?

Yes, but thats not PCI express, there are not very many cards (newer) that run nearly as well on a typical PCI port. AGP was(technicaly should be IS, we have no real NEED to pci express YET) That would not (as previously mentioned) make a good system for a games developer, particularly because of the lack of the L2 catch apparent in Celeron processors. FYI that is a feature that anyone even dabbling in games will take extensive use of. Now, this would on the other hand make a great starting computer for my 12 yr old nephew learning console programming, if you cant sell it, contact me for $200 flat)

Have a good one

Made my day.

BTW, those card reader thingies seem to suffer from remnant electrical charge. I know a lot of people whose PC wouldn't boot anymore because of those buggers. Unplugging the computer and flicking the on/off switch seems to solve the problem 99% of the times though.

You are seriously kidding me right? :)

No offence but that system is your basic web surfer, email sender, 'typewriter with a screen'. It really won't do much else.

what about the 8x NEC double layer dvd+-rw drive?

Couldn't get me touch a Compaq. Impossible to upgrade since Compaq likes to put alot of proprietary hardware in their systems. Proprietary memory, drive bay rails, cables, etc...

Try selling it to a buddy or something and let them make payments to you...
