Windows default share authentication problem

I've tried googling this but to no avail. I'm probably looking on the wrong terms. I have a home network with several WinXP machines. Each has local logins. Sometimes I want to access something on another machine that is not on a share. So I go to explorer and type into the address bar: \\MachineName\c$ to access its C: drive. I then get an authentication dialog but the username is MachineName\Guest and is greyed out so I cannot enter my local username for the machine. Do you know how to work around this? At work I don't have a problem doing this but then again it's in a domain-controlled environment. Edit: fixed subject [Edited by - MauMan on November 10, 2004 4:52:00 PM]

Additional info: both machines are running WinXP Pro

I figured it out last night. It's because of Simple File Sharing.

To control it goto My Computer\Tools\Folder Options\Advanced Settings scroll down to the bottom and check or uncheck "Use simple file sharing (Recommended)". Of course if you turn it off you need to be pretty well versed in user accounts, privileges, and ACLs to keep your machine reasonably locked down.
