Hi, I thought I'd post this here, this is a great game which kept me busy for for nearly half of 1999-2000, this is also the game I've been trying to do it as a remake (but haven't really got very far ;( )..nevermind lol. The game is Star Command Revolution, so if you are poor at the moment or something and just want a game to play for a while try this one. You can get it at Home of The Underdogs; www.the-underdogs.org/search.php?search_game=star+command If you get it (for winxp), use the compatibility wizard on Starcom.exe and choose 256 colours and windows 98. Hope you like it Edit If you do get it make sure you get the right one, either Star Command Revolution, or Star Command Deluxe, (this has slightly updated gui), there are a couple other games on the page which aren't the ones.

I'm always a bit iffy about abandonware; I'm not entirely sure if it counts as warez or not.
Anyone got any solid arguments to say whether it's legal or not?

Hi, I hadn't really thought of that? I did think Home of the underdogs was alright though? But I don't know for sure?

Hmm. I'm just a bit sceptical, that's all.

From their about section:

We believe that providing games that have been abandoned by their publishers, while technically illegal, is a valuable service to the gaming community because these games are in danger of disappearing into obscurity, and their copyright holders no longer derive any revenues from them.
Yeah, it seems to be illegal, but I doubt anyone will care. My advice, ask a mod.

Heck, if PC World has it, it must be fine. Maybe the publisher released it for free publicly. I know that happens from time to time.

Unfortunately, it's illegal. Fortunately, it's Home of the Underdogs, which has been discussed at length. I'll leave the thread be so people can talk about it, but I will simply assume that people found a legal old copy - or played it way back when - as the basis for any comments they make.

Cool? Cool.

They say they put up stuff and assume no one cares but if someone does they take it down immediately. I don't see a moral quandry with it.

Unfortunately moral!=legal and of course, illegal!=immoral. Or perhaps, illegal does not imply immoral. Whatever.
