I don't know if this has been posted before, but I'm bored so I thought I start a topic about this. I really liked that game and I'm playing it again to find any details that give more insight to what's really happening. The easter egg is described here. The Vorginaut seems to talk about what happened in the end of HL1, some connection between them and Freeman, and my feeling is that he knows about the G-Man:
Quote:
We remember the Freeman. We are coterminous. There is no distance between us. No false veil of time or space may intervene. We see you still in Black Mesa. Clearly we see you in the Nihilanth's chamber. We bear witness to the bright eternity of the Nihilanth's demise. You leap, you fall, we see you flash beyond the barriers. For a brief time you joined with us. You are one. Between the worlds. Communion of the vortessence. And that other: a deeper mystery. No deeper than the void itself. We cannot forget those whose cords you cut. Forgiveness is not ours to bestrow. We are there still, in observance of your final stroke. While our own lay scattered at your feet, you severed the vortal cord that brought the Nihilanth to life, and to us. That sharp spur of hope has not dulled to this day. For once the lesser master lay defeated, we knew the greater must also fall in time. Your bright face obscures your darker mask. We call you sib, although your mind and meaning are a mystery to us. Far distant eyes look out through yours. Something secret steers us both. We shall not name it. We are a tapestry woven of vortessence. It is the same for you if only you would see it. How many are there in you? Whose hopes and dreams do you encompass? Could you but see the eyes inside your own, the minds in your mind, you would see how much we share. We are you, Freeman. And you are us.
Anyway, I thought I would share for those who are interested.

Speaking of this...where was it explained why the alien dudes are allies now? I know why it happened due to the interweb, but I don't ever remember it being explained in the game itself.

It didnt:S As far as I could tell HL2 didnt explain anything. It was very dissapointing in that respect.

One player per copy of the game.

I'm pretty sure all the Vortigaunts say that stuff if you talk to them long enough.

In HL1 the Vortigaunts were slaves of the Xen, now that you've killed the Xen they are free. Which is why they're allies.

Don't think so.

The game just kind of "assumes" you know wtf is going on. =/

I'd say that HL2 explains quite a bit , but you have to look hard enough and fill in gaps yourself. In that respect it is really good.

I think one of the more interesting aspects is how the G-Man's handled. Now I haven't finished it yet(just got out of Nova Prospect), but the question over the G-man's motives and allies are pretty interesting. I must have seen him on about half a douzen occassions often talking to people that I meet later as allies. But I've never seen any indication that Ely or Alyx Vance are in league with him.

No spoilers please. :)

One thing I find interesting is at the end, when the G-Man says he will assign Freeman a new job: "Instead of giving you the illusion of free choise, I will choose myself". Now, why free choise would be an "illusion"? Is it possible that the G-Man is Gordon that came from the future or something?

I have a theory that g-man gets paid or something to send Gordan to do things and that he was observing him in the first one or something.

You know...I wonder how much of this game is supposed to refrence to reality. When we play half life, we are gordon freeman. There is only one choice...to follow the directions of the game..or the gman. How did he get the name "G-man" btw? >_<

If any of this is based off fan fiction then I'm going to start slicing tires.

I think it stands for Goverment Man. Anyway, one thing that is completely certain is that Dr. Breen knew everything about G-Man. Just before the final sequence, he said to Gordon: "You've been proven a fine pawn for those who control you. Did you realize that your contract was open to the highest bidder?"

Gman: "Gordon... I am your father."
Gordon: "NNNNOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!"
"Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The nly verdict is vengeance; a vendett o

In HL1, his model was named g-man, because he looks like one.

I don't think VALVe ever officially called him the 'g-man'. For all we know his name could be Bob or something. I think that it just what people call him. (and having the model name as that helps too)

Reference to the ending of HL1. He offers you to be employed under him or a battle he can never win. Obviously (if you want to live) you "choose" to be employed by him. This would be the Illusion of free choice he is referring to.
