What about using the october d3dx9.lib in this december updtae ? No longer compatible ? We have a huge software package where I recently added 3D support using DirectX9.0c. There is no way we can port all our code to VC7 easily, and we still need to build version in VC6. I will stick with october update and keep pressuring that we upgrade...

I wouldn't go mixing binaries from different builds/releases. You might be able to get it working, but you're more likely to be in a world of pain.

Do you need any of the new features of the December SDK? If not, then just stick with the October SDK. The differences are for us developers not the end users.

You might want to use, in your case for upgrading, the fact that Microsoft now seem to have "deprecated" VC6 (all of VStudio6?) as it is approaching 7yrs old now.

Depending on whether .Net2005 is branded as a 7.x or 8.x tool will determine if VS6 gets dropped from all support (MS usually support the current and previous versions only)

With that in mind, this shift in the DX-SDK might just be the beginning of your compatability problems ...
