Hi, I am having a very frustrating problem. I'm trying to make a game in QuickBasic and I went to open it and it opens for only a second or two and then just exits off the screen. I then realized all DOS programs are doing this and regedit.exe does this same thing. Maybe my computer will no longer run 16-bit programs? Why is this? It didn't do this yesterday. Norton Antivirus does it too. Has this ever happened to anyone before? I am running Windows XP Home Edition. I can't work on my game as long as this is happening. I would hate to have to format the hard drive and re-do everything, its such a pain to get everything the way that it was. Any response would be greatly appreciated. -Danny

Yeah, that sounds like a virus to me. You say your Anti-virus program isn't working? In that case, you can try one of the following:

-Boot into Safe Mode and run your anti-virus program there... it should run while in Safe Mode.
-if for somereason that doesn't work (or it doesn't find anything), try out HouseCall (go to www.trendmicro.com and there should be a link somewhere there). Not sure if the virus you have will block this, but it might work out (it's free and uses an ActiveX component...).

Anyway, hope this helps you. Good luck,
Walter.

It sounds like you could have a crafty little virus. Try rebooting into Safe Mode and running your antivirus software.

I have had the same problems; just from one to the other day dos programs didn't work any more. I don't think it is a virus actually. If you really can't get it to work, download a dos emulator and run qbasic in that, or move on to some more interesting programming languages like C and C++ :)

It caused your anti-virus program to stop working? Sounds like your computer's gots the AIDS.
