We just got one of these in school. It's the most expensive joke I've seen in a while, it's that bad. Any of you had experience of this? It's a Citrix thin client system, except they're fat clients. We know, because it took the guys in my year (including me) about a week to break through the security and generally knacker all the settings on individual machines, and are now in the process of running rings round our system admins. Words of wisdom: If you value your system safety and data integrity, don't get Citrix.

Citrix works fine for the company I work at, perhaps your school's IT staff are a bunch of powertripping knobs who take everything a vendor says at face value.

Oh wait, I just defined every school IT staff in creation.

True, but I think they're also totally stupid.

TBH, I think Citrix is great. When we were using it at the office we had almost 15K users on at a time on a machine hosted elsewhere (downtown, same city, though dial-in users from home also had no problem over DSL or Cable), and refresh rates were comparable to a LAN XWindows connection.

It was only once in awhile that I would have a massive failure of the redraw operations, but I figured this was due to a failure in the applications we were tunnelling over rather than MetaFrame itself.

But I've seen school departments completely destroy decent computer implementations; mine bought about a hundred new boxes for themselves, but instead of trying to cut a deal with a respected OEM, bought the crappiest Celeron they could find. They were advertised as 2.8GHz but the motherboard only allowed them to go at ~1400MHz.

Never had an issue with a citrix setup that wasn't user error. I'd imagine the staff just wasn't properly trained or informed on how to work with citrix.
