I just installed the microsoft virtual desktop manager powertoy. How do I change the icons on one desktop and keep them on another. I have changed the desktop images, but now I want to add/delete certain icons from each desktop. Whenever I delete an icon from one desktop, it gets deleted from the others also. How can I change this so it doesn't occur and I can add/delete icons from each desktop at will??

Virtual desktops don't affect the actual desktop, they just affect what windows you see.

But I thought there was a way to change the icons on each of the desktops though? Like have one desktop with programming only icons and another for gaming icons??

You can have different users. So you can log in under the programming one and have all the programming stuff there.

Don't use desktop icons :D

I expanded my taskbar to be 2 rows high and then grouped all of my icons into toolbars on my taskbar. If you can't fit everything on your taskbar then you need to prioritize. Cluttered desktops and toolbars drive me nuts. If you don't launch something atleast once a day you can afford to spend another 5 seconds to navigate the start menu.

I gave up desktop icons too, but I end up just cluttering folders full of the same junk. I'm an inherently disorganized person, no matter how much I make it look like I a nice, clean desktop.

If you want different desktops, you'll have to use something other than the powertoy. Unfortunatly, most of them are shareware, but you might find a freeware one somewhere.

A clear desktop may look pretty, but let's not pretend we're organized. You find ONE way to access everything and you stick to it.

I organize my icons into rows and columns. By function. For example: my dev tools are in the top-right corner. Photoshop and other imaging in one column. Dreamweaver, .NET, and others in another column. Hammer, Blender, et cetera in another.

My whole desktop is this way, and I love it. And I love ME.
