any one know of any good algorithms to create, produce a lightning effect. i am looking for something for a first person, rpg game. need an effect like in the televisino show Highlander thanks much Code makes the world go round...

Well honestly the easy way is to pre-generate alot of lightning bitmaps and play them back in some sort of randomized order.
