I'm looking for some advice on a game engine htat I'm going to build. I am planning on using C++ with OpenGL for graphics and using DirectX for handling things such as input, sound, etc. Does anyone have any advice towards my preferences above, nothing is certain right now... Also, can someone recommend a tutorial for building a game engine in C++ with either OpenGL or DirectX. I have this site's owners/authors book, but I am looking for a shorter, if a little more concise example.

I'll check it out, and thanks for the quick reply.

if you're using directx for sound and input, why not just use it for graphics as well?

I think OpenGL beats DirectX when it comes to graphics, but it doesn't have any tools for other game engine issues, so I think it makes sense to use both.

I am using this site's authors/owners book as a guide also.

There's no such thing as a bad graphics-API when talking about DirectX and OpenGL... only bad programmers! :)
