well i barely know what i'm doing, but here's what i just did in the last hour or so. i downloaded and installed the latest dev-c++ beta. i used the web update feature and downloaded the directx9.0c devpak from devpaks.org. note that there's another dx9 devpak on the other mirror but i think you might need the one from devpaks.org. i downloaded that nehe d3d basecode zip, imported the .dsp into dev-c++, tried to compile... failed.

i had to change these lines...
#include // Header File For DirectX 3D
#include // Header File For DirectX 3D

to this...
#include // Header File For DirectX 3D
#include // Header File For DirectX 3D

then i had to go into the project options, parameters, add these to the linker...
-ld3d9
-ld3dx9

tried to compile again, exe couldn't find d3dx9.dll. i found the .dll in the dev-c++\dll directory and copied to the directory with the project and the exe.

it seems to work, but i don't think this is the proper way to do it :)
This space for rent.
