I have looked seriously everywhere(except where the answer is) looking for how to change the resolution with an hta, activeX and &#106avascript... In every forum, everyone says that its quite possible but they won't say because: "its frowned apon" "it would be irrisponsible to say" "I don't want you changing my resolution!" How did they figure it out in the first place??? I have searched the msdn thing for like 10 days, and google for about a month. I make games with &#106avascript, and a lot of people are complaining about the too heigh resolution, so i need to change it. If you dont want your resolution changed, just don't play the game! Sorry, I am just really mad right now. If anyone knows you don't know how grateful i would be... thanks in advance..........

I've never heard of any way to do this through a web browser, and if there is a way, then the OS that supports it is in dire need of rethinking its security model.

No, not a web browser. An hta... They are web browsers without restrictions. Like reading files and stuff.

Does anyone know an ActiveX reference page that i can look through or something?

There is no way to change the users monitor resolution.

However, you can resize the browsers window (which is frowned apon). This is most likely what people are refering too. Window size is generally what is important when it comes to monitor resolution in WebDev - after all, some on a 1600x1200 res monitor with your site open at something crazy like 473x200 isn't going to have the desired results.

That said, your site should be viewable at any sane resolution. warhammerdude20, it sounds like people are complaining that when they go to play your games at, say, 800x600, they need to do a lot of scrolling around. This is what they mean by resolution - your game is not playable at resolutions smaller than what you initially designed for. In this case, you can tell them to throw out that ancient monitor and get something decent or redesign your game to eithe rbe a much smaller fixed dimension (Say 400x300) or to fill the users screen regardless of their resolution or window size (which - given that you are making a game with &#106avascript - would probably involve a lot more calculations.)

Hmm, I may be wrong. It is a "fully trusted application" that allows you to do things that IE would never let you think about doing.

hta info from msoft.

Exactly! Again, is there any ActiveX reference page i could go to to try and dig it up?

Eek. Sorry I can't help you more, but I would just be googling randomly : / That was pretty much the extent of my knowledge on the subject! I really would have expected it to be easy to find on msdn, but apparently not! Sorry, man...

I've used HTA files before, but I don't know of any way you can change the resolution of the users screen. You can change the windowState quite easily, but that isn't really what you're looking for. Good luck finding something on how to do this, but I'm not sure that it's even possible.
