I downloaded DX8, and I''ve been fooling around with some of the tutorials, but I''ve found a really annoying problem. Whenever a DX structure or class is declared eg: LPDIRECT3D8 g_pD3D = NULL; when I type: g_pD3D. The compiler won''t show any of it''s data, like functions or anything. This is really annoying. By the way I''m using VC++ 6.0 Oh yeah, the stuff still compiles without a problem and runs fine, so of course it is linked right (I''m assuming.) And one more thing, when I make my own classes it does show all of it''s data

I think this is ''normal''. I''ve had the experience, that the syntax completion only works for classes which are included in the project you are working on. With this I mean classes whose header files are _explicitly_ added to the project. So, adding the headers from the mssdk\include directory might help ... not sure, though.

I have had the same problem with Direct-x 7 as well as with 8. Strange thing is it will auto complete old direct-x versions. i tried placing the *.chm file inside the msdn folder as well as a bunch of other things yet it still refuses to do it. ARGH!!!!!!!!!!...damn microsoft

Maybe I''m crazy, but I think I remember the compiler showing all of the data of DX stuff in DX 7.0, but maybe not. I forget, damn it''s annoying though

Wait, I just checked something and I''m not crazy: when I make a call to
g_pd3dDevice->CreateVertexBuffer(
it won''t show me any of the parameters to the function either. Does anybody else have this problem? I''m using the workspaces which come with tutorials for D3D

To solve the problem, you need to add the DirectX header file to the header files folder (you know, the one on the left). After adding it, that will give you statement completion. Pretty silly, eh?

Hey, cool^^ I''ve been having that problem too, but just decided to type code like the good ol'' days of Notepad instead of spending hours trying to make it work. It used to work just fine cause I was just doing the tutorials, so I included the files directly, but now I just have a main.h file that includes everything.

You know, this is (was?) in the FAQ of this forum. But, um, I guess nobody ever reads that...
