Hi I am beginning work on a small 2D fighting game, but I am planning on using D3DX for sprite handling as well as 3D effects and so on. I just have one question, I previously have written a version entirely using DirectDraw, and I want to see if I can do the following: Load by Stage Background to an offscreen DD Sufrace (done) Draw that Bitmap to the Back Buffer using either DrawBitmap or a Blt(D3DX created this) use D3DX Sprite calls to render the sprite on the back buffer. Is this possible, or do I have to draw the background with the Sprite functions as well? Kevin =)

Yes this is possible, and no you don''t have to use the sprite functions for the background, you can use blt or bltfast. However, there will be a performance drain. You should use blt and bltfast as little as possible when working with d3dx or d3d. If you do decide to do this try to keep the background in video memory.

Actually that is what I do. I only load the stage once and when I decided to scroll the background, I just move the source RECT. Thanks
