I haven't been very active around here lately and maybe most of you don't even know me, but I'd like to share this with you anyway: Tomorrow I will be taken into hospital to undergo surgery for the first time in my life. They will remove a little part of my colon due to Crohn's disease, a sickness which has basically kept me from working for the past four years resulting in bankruptcy of my company (we were doing good business in online entertainment, primarily shockwave games). The operation may solve the problem or make it worse, or neither, so you can understand I'm quite anxious for the outcome. Anyway, I really hope to get back into development soon and leave this state of inertia behind forever. Wish me luck guys, and take care of your health, because I know my past lifestyle of programming until 6AM on Coca-Cola and cigarettes probably has something to do with it. See y'all later! (I may hope ;))

Crohn's desease is TEH SUKC! Good luck with your surgery dude!

Oh, and I don't think coca cola and cigs has anything to do with the cigs. It's just, bad luck.

Good luck, and try to leave your body when the aneastethics kick in and walk around a bit. Let me know how it worked out. [grin]

For everyone else, here's the rundown on Crohn's Disease.

A cousin of mine has Crohn's Disease, and he had surgery for it a while back, and it made him much better than before.

Wow, I guess I never appreciated how crucial my colon was to my programming ability. :P

Seriously though, good luck, and don't worry -- you probably don't need that piece of colon anyway. Frankly you have too much colon.

Be positive!
It helps speed recovery immensely. Try to calm down and have a good outlook.

Good luck - and if you are going for an IV Anaesthetic - TRY and stay awake when they pump the milky stuff into you. It was the most blissful feeling I have ever had, hey, what else is there to enjoy about an operation [grin]

Thats a real bummer, the effects its had, I hope you will be able to find it in yourself to try again with the business.

The very best of luck with the surgery, hope it all turns out for the best.

I'm sure it will make you feel better, after you recover from the surgery. Iknow about this from experience as I had surgery for the exact same problem.

Best of luck,

Richard

Good luck! The surgery isn't bad at all least not in my experience. Ive had the surgery twice now. According to my doctor the average Crohn's patient gets 1.5 surgeries in their lifetime so lets hope im the 2 and your the 1! The after surgery pampering that results from not being able to easily move up and down stairs almost makes it worth the trouble anyways.

Hi folks, thanks for the nice responses.
I've been home for a week now and everything is going well. They performed laparoscopic surgery so I have only three tiny holes which will be invisible over time. Amazing technology.

So, time to get things back on track while I have to retrain my brain, because watching TV from the bedside for months makes the grey mass kinda lazy.
See ya around!

Im sure you already know this, but Chrons disease is actually extremely common (well, relatively anyway). If you find that the surgery didnt help as much as you had hoped, then dont despair: you can still lead a perfectly normal life with a few slight changes of diet. The exact same thing happened to a good friend of mine. It might not feel like it to you right now, but, its no biggie!

I too have a friend with Crohn's Disease. It's pretty advanced. It's scary to think that he might die before his kids are all grown up.
