Hey everyone, I was wondering if you think that it would be a good idea to place a seperate section in the forum for shading languages (I had Cg in mind). IMO, Cg doesn't exactly fall into any of the current catagories. I hope to get some reasonable feedback :)

IMO, we don't get enough shader questions to justify another forum. And considering you can't use Cg without using either OpenGL or DirectX, it seems that both those categories would be appropriate for Cg questions, depending on which API the poster is using. Or even the general graphics forum.

Ok, I see what you mean, but now that I think about it, I should have said a seperate forum for GPGPU programming. But then again, I doubt we have many people talking about that or have many with that type of advanced gamedev knowlege at least from what I have seen so far.

This is actually something that has been on our plate for over a year, but it would be more than just a forum. It's a possibility in the future.

I'd like to see more for shaders as well. I don't know what form it could take though.

I have to dissagree with that, there are lots of people on the dx forums talking about, or already using shaders. Also where does the advanced knowledge come from? - Maybe thats exactly why we need a resource for it. I have just ordered shaderx 3 (the book), because I haven't been able to find anything suitable to try and learn from.

For the most part, I'm happy to allow GPGPU questions in the GP&T forum. That's the place for non-API-specific graphics questions, and it seems to me that most GPGPU questions are of that nature.

I agree, the fundamentals and theory of what is being implemented with the shaders should go in the GP&T forum, for specific implementation details it should go in the respective API forum I suppose (GLSL goes in OpenGL and HLSL in DirectX).
If at first you don't succeed, redefine success.
