How much to do you pay to avoid DUW?

My provider just bumped our download speed to 6 mbit, yay! Free, yay! This got me wondering what others are willing to pay for their high speed connection. I remember in 1996 I started looking into different "hard-wired" solutions, T1 and Frame Relay were way out of my price range, so dial up it stayed. I fist could afford DSL in 2000, and have never paid for dial up ever since. 512K down was extra, 256K was the standard when I joined. I paid extra. Now my friend lives in a much smaller town, and he is paying $100 a month for his cable + internet. He has premium channels and 3 mbit download speed. My "High Speed Internet Service" on my cable bill, is $42.95 and that includes a discount for having cable with them too. All together I am paying $120 and change for my cable tv and internet. When did you get your first broadband fix, and what are you willing to pay to stay high speed? Anyone with something exotic in their home (ie, not cable or dsl (or dialup))?

$42.95?! That's practically paying for managed hosting, not ISP service! Our house pays $229 a month for T1 service, but since it's a fraternity house there's quite a few of us (17), which makes the per-person cost rather low. $13.50 a month for T1 is just fine and dandy by me. There was also a $1,000 setup fee for them to dig some wires and run shielded cable through our lawn ($60 a person).

I use Comcast and my bill for cable + Internet will be $90/mo once my special offers run out.

$42 for 256kbit down 128kbit up, stupid goverment monopoly on telecomunications... thankfully, thats going down due to the CAFTA.

$40 a month ADSL. 1024/512Kbps. They're bunping it to 1600/768 soon for free. It's actually one of the most expensive ISP's here in Holland, but also one of the best.

40 euro (shared with 5 people), 8mbit. thats what ive been having the last two years.

last week they were digging outdoors for some badass experimental 80mbit thingy. thats not going to happen though unless my uni provider decides to buy into this network.

Yikes! There's some pretty expensive connections in here.

I'm paying $48.90cdn for a 1024/256kbps connection. Add another $48.90cdn for my cable TV. Pretty good deal I find.

holy shit, it better be really damned good then. what can be so good about a provider youd be willing to pay that much for it? does it also do the laundry?

T1 isn't all that fast for the price tho why did you pick that instead of dsl was it reliabilty? (or other dsl providers not allowing shared connections?)

$7/mo for 10mbit dorm connection, average throughput is around 1.8-2mbit with about 600ms-1200ms ping to off campus.

I have Comcast as well..

$42.95 for 5 mbit down/386k UP..not bad ..
$52.95 for digital cable and my total bill w/ taxes(grrr) is about US-$100/month

but one person said he got $20/month for 8 mbit?? how is this possible?

My DSL is 3.0Mbit down/512kbit up and cost $35 a month. My cable is separate and cost $9.99 for basic premium (comes with Comedy Central, ESPN, etc, but no HBO/movie channels).

I am happy with this set up because DSL in my area doesn't get faster [smile].

Finally the French Telecom has 'decided' (read: was forced by the gov't) to connect my little village to broadband ! Yay ! Thank God I'll be able to say goodbye to dial up in around 3 weeks. Cost is around 25 Euro per month for a 20mbit connection.

Once my special runs out, it'll be $60/month for just the Internet.

Which is pretty shitty.
