I need some help... I know, yeah, girl threads are lame. But this is pretty serious.. ya see, there's this one really special girl, who is really cute and I care for her a lot. I've known her for a couple years, since we go to the same school and have a lot of the same classes. I've tried to talk to her relatively often, so that she'd get the hint that I like her. Unfortunately it didn't work even though I was really nice and stuff. Anyways, a week or so ago, it was her birthday. I wanted to take advantage of it to tell her how I feel. So I bought her an iPod, since she had been talking to me earlier about how she wanted one but couldn't get it. So to show I was listening to her I bought her one. I also wrote out a love sonnet, which I am really proud of. Anyways, I wrapped up the iPod, wrote out the love sonnet on scented paper in calligraphy, so it looked nice. So I rolled up the sonnet with a flower inside, and tied it to the wrapped iPod. Then I kind of chickened out. I was too scared to give it to her, so I just left it in her mailbox (she lives on my street), since I thought the surprise would be good and stuff okay? But uhh, yeah, I realized later that I hadn't actually put my name anywhere on the sonnet or the iPod, so she had absolutely no way of knowing who gave it to her. I'm an idiot loser. :( Things have been continuing for normal this past week, and I've talked to her as normal, and have even asked her things like "so did you get anything good for your birthday?" thinking that if she mentioned the iPod I could be like oh that was me, I didn't leave my name on it? Oops! But she didn't mention the iPod! I don't even know if she got it but I checked later and it wasn't in the mailbox. I hope she got it since it said her name on it but maybe her sister stole it or something? Argh, I just don't know what to do guys. I thought of buying her a nice new ring, and giving that to her, and attaching another sonnet to it, in the same format, and this time giving it to her in person so she knows its me and knows I gave her the iPod, but I don't know what to do. Should I just tell her I gave it to her? Won't she think thats a little weird, that I mention my present like that? Won't it reveal that I like her? I don't want her to know because I'm afraid and won't she think I'm a stalker or something? :( Also to buy the iPod I kind of spent a lot of my money. So I don't have enough to buy my clothes and stuff since I used the money my parents gave me for that. So what should I do? I thought of asking for the iPod back so I could return it, but I kind of don't talk to her that often so it might be weird. Please help me guys. I don't know what to do. [sad]

Just ask her out. While all that fancy stuff is great, you're bound to fuck up.

You're only going to get 1 real piece of advice in this thread, so I figured I'd be the first one to say it: talk to her, and tell her how you feel. Playing games may be cute, but communication is the key. Tough it up, and just talk to her. [smile]

EDIT: Ok, Mushu, the second one to say it. :P

You gotta find out if she got the iPod or not. That's a big investment to just lose without even knowing if she got it or not. Maybe she got it and figured out it was from you and now she's playing hard to get.

He could have done one of those "win a free iPod******" ads.

Pin a bullseye on his chest and give her an arrow: "Hit my heart and win a free * iPod!"

I kind of hope this thread is a joke, you bought a girl an ipod, but you didn't actually give it to her. You bought it to show her that you like her, but now you are scared to tell her about it because she might find out you like her?

Wow, just wow.

Kill her, take her bones, and then make an iPod necklace with said bones.

Then nail it to her tombstone.

I have a new found respect for you.

I agree with the two above statements.

I don't think the iPod was such a great move, regardless of whether she actually received it or not.

If I were given an iPod by a girl that I may have thought was interested in me, I'd ask my self "wow, is she so afraid just to come up and ask me out that she had to invest in a $200 iPod for me instead?" Sorta get what I'm saying here? =
Looks like you lost an iPod. But it's not too late. Unless you can think of a clever witty way to tell her that you gave her the iPod, don't. Otherwise, you'll encounter an awkard situation similar to this:
you: hey where'd you get that ipod?!??!
her: I found an iPod in my mailbox a couple days ago!
you: ah, that was me!
her: ....
you: I left it
her: ..?
you: for your birthday
her: *thinks wtf*

That makes no sense, she wouldn't react this way.

Won't it reveal that I like her?

I thought the point of buying the iPod was to reveal that you like her. You've now filled me with doubt about the purpose of love sonnets as well. [sad]

I don't know. Unless his financial situation is VERY easy, it's a really awkward move. I've never bought a 300 CAD$ gift for any of my girlfriends before... It's a freaking lot of money for a student, and it sounds like they aren't even GOOD friends.
I teleported home one night; With Ron and Sid and Meg; Ron stole Meggie's heart away; And I got Sydney's leg. <> I'm blogging, emo style

Dude thats creepy... Really

The only way to redeem yourself is to talk to her COMPLETELY. Tell her what you told us. Be like "I really like you (or however you want to say it. i'm kinda drunk and typeing way too fast for it) and I bought you an ipod to show how special you are to me, but i chickened out but now i'm a tough man again and you're awesome and i'm awesome and we should make awesome babies that can roam the streets listening to the tunes from the ipod that started it all". Then she goes:
Her: *BLINK * *BLINK!*
you: *WINK WINK*
Her: *licks her lips*
You: cCome to poppy.
Her: OMG LOVE@!oneonetilde~
I love me and you love you.

Eh I exagurated a bit, and I guess its pretty circumstantial. But the little love sonnet thing is pretty classy. If Dillon had just left an iPod in her mail box, that would be a bit weird...

Sucks that you didn't leave a name though, that's a really difficult situation. You can't exactly go up to her and ask "put anything interesting on the iPod yet?" because if she actually hadn't received it, .. well .. then you've got some explaining to do (and it'd also suck not being able to explain what HAPPENED to the iPod)

I'll think some more, I'm not sure what you can do right now

Holy crap. You went through all that, didn't even put your name on it, and just skirted around the issue by saying "did you get anything good"? Now it's going to be even more wierd if you finally do tell her. This reeks of a really bad teen movie. I'd have to say, buying a girl an ipod (non girlfriend) is a bit extreme. The love sonnet in caligraphy is rather cool idea though.

So yea, like the rest of the advice, talk to her.

Choose your Response Wisely:
1. (little balls option) "I was curious if you got the ipod I gave you for your birthday. Since I had to drop it off because I was in a rush."

2. (big balls option) "I was curious if you got the sonnet I gave you for your birthday. I wanted to give it to you in person but I kind of chickened out. When I got home I realized I was so nervous, I had forgotten to sign my name on it."

3. (sick psycho option) "Did you like the flower I enclosed in my love poem? I grew it in my garden; fertilizing it with hairs and skin particles I collected from around your desk over the last couple years".

***SPOILER WARNING****
Option two will yield far greater results. Either way, you might want to practice in front of the mirror a few times.
