Hey everyone! I know this should be at some sort of microsoft forum, but I thought I may ask here since someone may have encountered it before (i read a thread where someone had this problem on this forum, 5-years old thread, and didnt find anything helpful). Anyway, I was using VC++6 the other day, and I think I canceled the project building, the pc froze, unfroze, started building again, i stopped, basically messed up stuff like that, and now MSVC6 keeps recompiling whenever the entire project whenever i try to execute the file, or rebuild with no changes done to the source file at all (just a build click away from the last build) and it recompiles everything. Its horrible, and is getting on my nerves. Google didnt help much. If anyone could help, PLEASE do, I can't work like this! Thanks! Tim

I don't remember what it looks like in MSVC++6, but there should be a "Clean Project" menu item under the build menu. Try that.
[edit] Could you post the link to this previous thread, so that we don't just reiterate what was there?

Here is the old post (year 2000 lol):
http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=29271

And I tried deleting ALL the intermediate data (all files except for project files, debug folder, everything the way you (anonimous) said, I did it before anonimous suggested (a while ago), and after, and nither case worked.

Suggestions from the other post are really confusing, and the solution the guy had was also very strange, and I couldn't really follow with his problem, I just didnt see any "corrupt" characters in my source files.

Please help me out!

Regards,
Tim

Have you tried reinstalling VC++ 6? Also, I'd suggest that if it's at all possible that you upgrade to a more conforming compiler (You can get Epress Beta, or 2003 Toolkit is nice as well, for free from Micrsoft).

I have the same problem in VC7 but it's in almost every project and there wasn't any wierd bug like the original poster mentioned. It says that the project is not up to date every single time you debug or execute it. If I let it try to rebuild it, it skips everything including the linker and just executes it so it clearly IS up to date. I've done pretty much everything mentioned already. It is EXTREMELY annoying.

I had a problem similar to this recently if I understand your problem properly.Visual Studio wanted to recompile half of my project at every time when i started debugging.

The soultion was that somebody set the clock of my computer before my last rebuild and the creation time of my unchanged files was newer than the real time, so it seemed if they were new. Try to check the creation time of your files and compare it with your clock. Maybe it could help.

Sweet! I fixed it!!!

Ok, here is what i did: I went to build->batch build, checked both release and debug mode. It built both. Then, without testing if it worked (i was sure it didnt do anything) i tried to check the time and saw that the files were created in 2k3, right now as some of us remember is 2k5. So I took the clock, set it to 2k.. I dont know why, it doesnt make much sense to me, but i did it. Guess what? I try to run and it executed fine. Changed a file, only that file was rebuilt, everything worked like a charm! Then I just set my year to 2k5 again, and it works.

Thanks a lot for everyone's help. I dont know which solution from above was the one to fix it, so I just put both there.

Regards,
Tim

P.S. I thought I may as well reinstall windows for a while. lol

Edit: hope whoever else had this problem will get it fixed, the fact that its fixed makes you feel the same way you feel when you first crack a piece of software, lol. Thats a good feeling
