I love these things so much, except that when ever I get to the last step it takes forever. It really is a shame that I don't have enough time to sit down and memorize algorithms... Anybody else spend time on these?

My problem with Rubics cubes is that the colors were just stickers.

My problem with Rubics cubes is that the colors were just stickers. I never encountered one that I couldn't find proof that the colors had been rearranged at some point. And since everybody apparently thought too highly of themselves to just cheat right to a solution, the cube was invariably left in an unsolveable state. Before anybody points out the obvious, they truly were unsolvable, I'm not just bitter because I couldn't solve them. For instance, good luck solving a cube with no red sticker on a center square.

Not on all of them. I have one made of colored plastic...impossible to cheat.

There used to be two guys at our school, both identical twins, who could each do a Rubics in under a minute-twenty. We used to make them race. Eventually one of them showed me the steps to do it (well, one way to do it). Takes me about 15 minutes. You just have to know the procedure, really. Nothing tricky.

And here is a guy that did a 20x20x20 cube in 4 hours 24 minutes 54 seconds.
Quote:It's short for a 20x20x20 Rubik's Cube. People who are on the rubik's cube websites just call it a cube. example: "How fast can you complete a cube?" Or maybe I'm just pulling this crap out of my ass, but it makes sense to me [grin]

if it is a cube, do you really need to say more than 20x? aren't the other two 20's and the extra x redundant and useless? Can you make a cube that isn't the same size in all directions? ;)

So, is there a way to test a given rubik's cube for solvability without doing a thousand iterations and getting nowhere?
