How does one go about calculating the mean? Think about the values that you know and the values that you don't know. Reverse the process.

Let's split my original post into two parts.

Part 1: Remember or find out what the mathematical formula for "mean" is. Write it out using variables if you like. Decide which values in the formula you know, and which value you don't know. Use basic arithmetic on the values you do know to find the value you don't know.

Part 2: Read the Forum FAQ. Find out that it applies to the post you made. Repent and be a better person.

I really don't understand today's GCSE students. In my day we had one teacher and (if lucky) a textbook explaining the concepts.

Now there's the internet, special Maths forums, discussion groups blah blah.
