No-button contest?

So an idea someone (maybe me) had was to have a contest like the one-button contest, but using only the movement of the mouse, and NO buttons. I am increasingly interested in this possibility and I thought I'd throw it out here and see what you guys think. I'm not especially thinking of hosting such a contest since I'd like to enter myself, but if it's popular maybe GD would add it to their list or somebody else would like to ask to host such a contest?

A flashy graphics demo could work with no-buttons, but I'm not sure if that would really constitute a game. Still, I've enjoyed some no-button programs.

Well considering some fun games can be made using a single button, the mouse should give way more creativity and choice of game control IMO, while presenting some different limitiations.

Could the mouse buttons (and scroll wheel) be used?

Interesting idea. I think people could probably come up with some interesting ideas using only movement of the mouse as input. As an added bonus, the input scheme should also be compatible with a joystick (also without the use of any buttons).

Interesting. Anyone who didn't bother, go back and check that out.

Hmm, I think a game based on mouse gestures would be more fun than the 1 button idea (not saying that 1 button games can't be fun). First possibility I can think of (and probably the simplest) is pong. All you have to do is move your paddle back and forth.

Wow, that's actually *really* impressive. Not being able to click really forces you to use a well-designed page.

I might see about arranging a contest of some sort based on this rule if noone else grabs the idea in the meantime, I think it could be pretty cool, but I'll be taking some time to think about proper organisation of it, etc. before I properly commit.

This is really cool, and this thread's theme is a great idea for a contest. I would love to see it happen, and if it does count me in.

I was thinking no clicking of any kind. Mouse-wheel maybe - you'd get more freedom but it would be less intuitive to play I reckon.

And yes a joystick would be fine too but I think it'd be up to you to support mouse as a backup.

That'd be cool - better to have somebody official running it. Give me a shout if you have any thoughts?

Wow, that's a very cool site.
Although a bit confusing when things don't want to disappear! But interesting, yes - things like buttons which are just mouse-over areas with a timer are of particular significance for a contest.

It's certainly possible to make a game without using the mouse buttons... something like Engima.

I would be interested to see how this turns out though :).

Cheers!

Are talking "no button" or "motion only" as they could both result in very intresting compos'

"No button" could result in some wierd and wonderful input ideas but could be restrictive to judge... if say some one used a barcode reader or cardswipers or harddrive-airbag that was just not avilable on the judges systems.

Where as "Motion only" would be lees open but far easier to judge.

Please, stop the madness!!! How about a game with no controls!

BTW, about minimalist fun games. A new Sensible Soccer is in development. How cool is that? Very cool, that's how!
Everything is better with Metal.

If theres a prize at the end, I'm in. There are so many games out there that only use the mouse.
