This is probably in the wrong section but i tried to put it in books but that just led me to ratings and thats not what I want. Anyway here is the question - I have read the book Beginning 3D Game Programming and I will soon aquire ,3D Game Engine Programming ( The one with the purple figure on the cover) now, would it be a waste to buy Programming Role Playing Games with DirectX for reasons of already covering topics in one of the other two (Omitting the fact that it teaches you story design)??

Can you not wait until you've read "3D Game Engine Programming" before deciding?

Given the wealth of knowledge available on this very website as well as the wider internet I'd personally be inclined to wait. If you can find a good resource for free over the net then investing money in such a book doesn't make sense. I'm sure you'd find it annoying if you paid X for a book that you can effectively get for free online!

edit: changed "makes sense" to "doesn't make sense"

One other thing... you are aware there is a second edition available?

Looking at the TOC it refers to a section on DirectPlay - be warey of this. DP is deprecated and official advise is to generally avoid it where possible [oh]

I think this would probably be better off in Game Programming, so I'll move it there.
