i'm sure at least half of gdnet will tell you this when they find this thread...

don't get it. the fx/5xxx line is completely worthless. if possible, go for something from the 6xxx line or even a decent radeon 9xxx. (i'm not very familiar with the ati cards)

oh, and the answer to your question appears to be a yes.
This space for rent.

Yes it will support both analogue video (VGA Connector) and DVI (Digital connector for LCD's), if your LCD panel supports DVI use that.

May i ask how much your paying for it ?

how much of a budget do you have?
the 5xxx line is utterly useless nowadays, aside from the 5800/5900. I would get an ati 9700 and up, or nvidia 5900 and up

If I buy it I'll be paying $90 AU I just need a decent non expensive graphics card to use until I can afford a better one

for $90 it'll do the trick, the only really comparable card for the $90 mark would be a 6200TC nvidia but i reckon the FX5500 would probably be quite a bit faster than one of those.

The cheapest place in Melbourne I know to get computer parts is MSY.

They are in:
Malvern Branch (Melway Ref. 68 G1) 121 Waverley Road, East Malvern VIC 3345
Pascoe Vale Branch (Melway Ref. 16 K9) 439 Gaffney Street, Pascoe Vale VIC 3044
Clayton Branch (VIC) (Mel Ref. 70 K12) 9, 214-224 Wellington Road Clayton VIC 3168
Box Hill Branch (VIC) (Mel Ref. 47 D10) Suit 1, 2A Cambridge St., Box Hill VIC 3128

Not sure about shops in Geelong, but I'd expect you'd pay a bit more versus Melbourne.

How are the 'Radeon 9800 Pro' cards holding up these days? I have one myself, and I'm curious how far behind technology I am.

As far as I know, they are probably still decent for any current gen games. They seem to be a bit slower than a 6600gt, which is what I would consider mid-range. I wouldn't say you need to upgrade for another year or so (depending on what settings you can deal with in games).

I'm using a 6600gt and it's not too bad. But I mainly bought it because it's one of the few agp-cards which supports SM3.0 to play around with and it was quite cheap, too.
