Hey all, I am doing a little trouble shooting for a friend. She tells me that when she tries to close windows on XP, they just stick on her screen and don't resond anymore. Its as if the window objects continue being drawn despite being destroyed. I thought it was just a third party extension thing with IE, but it seems to effect all windows she opens (Buddy List, et cetera). She has the most recent XP updates and virus scan shows nothing. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? The only thing I can think of is that is a third party software that has dug itself into the very "window" object, if that is possible. Therefore, the objects destroy themselves internally, but not externally because they are still being accessed by an external object. A thourough adware scan should check this. But is that even possible? Please no comments about "Use Firefox" and things of that sort. I am just looking for solutions. Thanks!

"Its as if the window objects continue being drawn despite being destroyed."

That's probably exactly what's happening. It's probably not a problem with IE or window objects, but with the video card or drivers or their settings.

It's a dumb question but has she tried rebooting?

Try a spyware scan. 'Spybot - search and destroy' is pretty good if she has it.
My virus scans don't pick up spyware, so it is quite possible she has some.

[edit:] Try the new video card things first, and if the problem persists, scan away.

Awesome. Thanks guys. Ill tell her to try a 1) reboot, 2) update her video drivers then 3) do a spyware scan.

Thanks!
