I've been pondering over how to create a random rectangular image that repeats itself at an arbitary width and height. So far, my best idea is to map 3D noise to a toroid, then flatten the surface of that into a rectangle. This should create a random repeating rectangular image. What are your thoughts on this method? Is it the best way to do this, or is there possibly a faster way?

If you're using random noise, than that will be repetitive anyway. As long as the random distribution remains the same over entire image.

To generate tilable image, do this:

Original Tiled Cutout Blur inner cross: +---+ +---+---+ +---+---+ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | +-+-+ | +-+-+ +-+-+| | | | | | | | | | | | | | |+---+ +---+---+ +-+-+-+-+ +-+-+ + F + | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | +-+-+ | +-+-+ +-+-+ | | | | | | +---+---+ +---+---+

F is the final tilable image. How you blend the central section depends on type of picture, usually you'd do that manually, that's why you first tile 4 together. If you're autogenerating, just blend the edges.
