Hey guys, well I saw a couple VS questions being asked here so I thought it'd be the best bet, seeing as probably most of you use it :) I'm talking about Visual Studio 2005 Standard or above. When you first run it, it asks you for your prefered type of environment; C++, C#, J#, VB.Net, etc., whatever you choose, it'll set up VS for that language (to accomodate it), for example in the 'start page', it'll display links to articles for that language. When I first started mine up, I was in a hurry for doing something in C++, so that's what I chose, I accidentally didn't read the rest of the dialog, just clicked okay. Well, here I am now (for a long while already) trying to find out how to change that setting to C#. I've been through almost every setting in Tools > Options and other things, I might've missed it, so I'm wondering if you guys know, thanks guys, I'd really appreciate it.

I think your best bet is going to be to uninstalling it and reinstalling it.

Yeah, I think I said I did that three times, oh no that was in another thread. Anyways, I got it, go to Tools > Import Export Settings... and choose Reset All Settings.

Have you tried Tools -> Import and Export Settings -> Reset all settings

I don't really want to try it with my environment as I am happy with it :)

edit: looks like you beat me to it by 30+ seconds :)

:) Let's turn this into a FAQ :D

Q: My keys aren't working! I've tried to reset my keybinding settings but it wont work? What should I do?

Cause: Unknown, Microsoft is currently investigating. It seemed to have happened to everyone around the same time, actually, no, I'm sorry, after checking, these people seem to have had it ever since. It might be some bug in the program actually, hope Microsoft releases some sort of patch. Some people got it after uninstalling February 2006's SDK, however, a blogger by the name of Mike thinks that it was caused an unknown deletion of the file 'Current.vsk', more investigation is underway.

A: Well, first of all, start up the Visual Studio Command Prompt, and type devenv /resetuserdata, it'll take a while to finish, but once it's done, Visual Studio should be back to it's original, 'just installed' state (Don't worry, none of your projects should be affected, just Visual Studio's settings, such as customized key bindings, etc.). Everything should be as good as new.

You know blankdev, you can just switch to general settings. That way you will efficiently program in any language. Anyway, just thought to give in my 1/2 cent.

Q: When I install the April 2006 DirectX SDK, how come the directories do not automatically register with Visual Studio 2005?

A: This is a common problem the installer has. To correct it, add the general "C:\" in your exe/include/lib directories. Then install/reinstall the SDK. The directories should now automatically register.

Ohhh okay :)

Question: I'm running Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition, and it's all weird! It won't let me compile native C/C++ applications!

Cause: Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition doesn't come packaged with the PSDK (Platform SDK), you must install it yourself and manually configure it for Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition.

Answer: Install the PSDK and manually configure it with VS2K5EE. Instructions found here.
