i couldn't find my camera port that my digital camera docks into to upload pictures to my computer, so i figured what the hell.. I'll just connect my camera straight to my PC. My PC then decided to promptly format the camera.. informing me after its done. and these were very important pictures. Is there any way to recover these image files, or am I SOL?

If it was some form of flash media you are unfortunately SOL. Sorry.

Try google. I once found a few apps that promised to "unformat" memory sticks.
Often, a "format" doesn't really wipe the actual data, so with luck, it (or most of it) can be recovered.

yeah, maybe it just marks everything as empty. It doesnt have to set every bit to 0 to be formatted.

i found some trial version something-or-other that restored some of them.. all the video files are gone though. even so, i'll take what i can get.
