Mouse (MX1000) problem

I have a problem with my mouse, sometimes the cursor instantly moves to the top or to the bottom of the screen. It's a couple (3 or 4 I think) of weeks since this started to occur, but it have gotten worse. At start it happened once a day maybe and I didn't care what it was. This normally happens about every tenth minute, but sometimes it can take hours for it to happen and in other cases it can happen 10 times in a minute. It normally happens when I do something, I'm not sure what, but for instance it often happens when I click a button. I haven't seen it happen while the mouse wasn't moving. Sometimes after having moved the cursor it keeps sending either left or right clicks until I click that button, but that only happens once in a while. I have noticed it happens more often when I play CS:S, most likely because of the mouse movement and the clicking. The reciever is standing where it has for the last 8 months, right next to my screen, about 0.7 m from the mouse (~2,3 ft). Does anyone know what it could be?

I'm going to suggest you contatct tech support, but it could be something covering the optical sensor. (unlikely, but possible)

More likely, it is wireless interference or the battery. Did you recently get a wireless keyboard or other wireless devices? Have you tried reconnecting the mouse or moving the receiver closer to your mouse? Is the battery fully charged?

My brother was having issues with his Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse config, but he solved it by moving the receiver and reconfiguring the signal.

I doubt something is covering the optical senser, because it's almost a month since it started and I have checked numerous times.

The battery is fully charged, but it's 8 months old, could it already start to fail? I have actually gotten a keyboard with a wire a couple of weeks before the problem started occuring, so that's not it. I don't have anything wireless except the mouse, so if it's interference I can't imagine where it's coming from.

I will try experimenting with the location of the reciever.

I didn't think it would be something covering the optical sensor, but the stab in the dark sometimes hits the mark.

The battery could be the problem. If it's only 8 months old, though, it's probably not the battery.

Is the warranty void? Even if it is, tech support might be worth looking into.

I hope the location of the receiver helps.

I have this problem from time to time with my cheapie Microsoft laptop mouse. I don't really know why. Logitechs seem to be okay.

What kind of surface are you running the mouse on? I find optical mice get confused with very regular patterns and glass surfaces. Try changing out your mouse pad.

The random-clicking behaviour worries me, though. Perhaps a switch is going in your mouse, or the cable is damaged. Try changing USB ports, or replace the mouse with a different one and see if the issue persists.

Is the MX1000 wireless? Perhaps there is interference.

I run it on an Icemat. Actually it's pretty old, it might have light hole or something in the middle. It wouldn't explain the clicking though.

The mouse is wireless, so if the cable is damaged it's the reciever's cable, which I doubt since I have barely touched it in the time I have had the mouse. I don't know if it's interference, it might be, what kind of devices could create interference?I have no other wireless devices, which I thought was what normally created interference.

I had this with A4-Tech optical-wireless(radio) piece of shit. Except it escaped in diagonal directions. It also had habit of occasional ignoring first 1-2 of consecutive wheel scroll impulses.

*sigh* if I could count all the times I got fragged just because this shit got crazy when I was engaging enemy in MP games... At some point I even changed my player name to "Never buy A4-Tech mouse"

No, it's not plug (I tried PS/2 and USB). Neither I think it's battery, however, I noticed that when the moon phase was right and I exchanged my accumlators to freshly recharged ones, the frequency of "going crazy" somehow decreased a bit... I'm not really sure.

Anyway, I'm now happy with wireless NON-optical Logitech now (good old dust gathering ball, welcome back), feeling like criminal, because you can't buy such mouse in shop legally these days (it's OEM only).

To rule out fading interference, move the receiver or mouse about a foot in any other direction, and see if it makes a difference. If it doesn't, then there is either a continual background interference, or the problem is elsewhere.
If at first you don't succeed, redefine success.

Old TVs and microwaves can leak radiation across the spectrum which can screw up wifi, TV/radio reception and other interesting things. Also, older portable phones are infamous for the same thing.

Check to see if an appliance is coming on while your mouse is non-functional.
