Hey everyone, I'm not sure if this should be restricted to teh your announcments forums or not but if it shold the moderator can happily move it. But my friend is created a forum to be a vault of tutorials that he just started creating now. Can you give any tips as to how it should be changed on layout. Being a programmer I didn't like all teh languages being packed into one forum like that but idk maybe a few pointers for him? Thanks.

where's the forum/sample tutorial?

OT: (be careful of what you post...some people here will rate you down because gamedev.net's rating is their life...lol)

I would hope not, for one there is no way to replace gamedev.net or threaten it b/c of how good they are. For 2, it's not even my site, he just asked me a favor to ask. And 3rd, it's a tutorial only site, not a help site.

Actually, packing all the topics into as few forums as possible is a good idea for a new forum. With a lot of forums and no members the whole place would seem empty, and people don't really like posting in an empty forum. With a smaller number of forums it doesn't take as many posts for it to start to seem active, which will in turn encourage other visitors to sign up and post. Personally I'd start off with less forums than are already present - one for each of the category headings would probably work reasonably well. Once it gets busier you can always create new forums for those topics that are getting enough traffic to warrant it.

The layout itself looks pretty good, it's reasonably clean and uncluttered as forums go.

As for the tutorials:
- Is there a lack of existing material for the subjects being covered?
- Are the people writing the tutorials experts in thier field?
If not, will the tutorials really be of value to people?
