Didn't see this here, so if it was posted please close [wink].
FEAR Combat is availible for download at JoinFear. It's the same component as the FEAR Multiplayer, except it's free. You can play against other Combat players as well as retail FEAR players online. This is the FULL multiplayer component, not a demo. How does BitTorrent work, exactly? Peer-to-peer, right? Does that mean that the more people downloading the same thing at the same time the faster speed? Because as more "peers" appeared, my download speed got better and better. If it IS this way, let's all download with the BitTorrent [lol]. Also, I hate to break it to some of you, but the download is 1.8GB. [Edited by - agi_shi on August 17, 2006 1:02:51 PM]

But you still need to buy FEAR?

Nope. This is the full Multiplayer component of FEAR, renamed FEAR Combat. You play against other FEAR Combat / retail FEAR Multiplayer players online.

EDIT: This explains it. You can also [google] for "FEAR Combat" and read news from other places.

So it's like if HL2 Deathmatch was available for free on steam but not HL2 itself so you still need to buy it if you want to play the single player game from what I understand.

Yeah. FEAR multiplayer component being free is kinda like HL2 multiplayer component being free, except the game is FEAR and not HL2. And HL2 multiplayer component doesn't happen to be free. Great analogy, it really helped me understand this complex matter. Thanks.

Yup, exactly. As you download parts of the file, you make the available for upload to other peers. The more people are downloading (peers), the more are uploading.
Seeds are people who have a complete copy of the file(s) and are only uploading.

Thanks, agi_shi! =)

Anyone know why certain torrent clients seem to work better than others? O_o

I got it from here at 500KB/s, some of you might want to try there.

Also, this game is awesome! This is the first time I've played a game online, and I must say it rocks!

Ive been playing it for about an hour now.

This game is so fast paced its not funny. Why the hell do they make it so fast? You cant see fuck all, just a blur as you zip by everything at 1000mph. And then *boom* a (seemingly) stray bullet comes from out of nowhere and your toast. Dont even know who did it because hes a million miles away by now.

With all the wicked graphics and detail in this game, its a damn shame they had to ruin it by cranking the speed up so high. It would be a *completely* different game if they cut it down to half speed. It would be so much more fun.

Just another game with sweet graphics but lacking on the gameplay side of things.

Ever played Painkiller?

Yeah, but not multiplayer.
Man that is fast.
Single player was much slower, like it should be.

But my same complaint applies to Painkiller then. It looks like it would be a lot more fun if it was much slower. That is just stupid fast.

I haven't played F.E.A.R. multiplayer yet, but I have played a good portion of the single player game and it's great. The game is still fast paced but it seems slower than what you're describing. But man, that painkiller game is crazy fast, no detail at all. Just looks like they're running around with cubes as the character.

Wow, this game is FUN! I just got back after playing for about 2 hours on DeathMatch.

How is it "fast"? Are you sure you didn't go to some server that maxed out the running speed? I think running is kinda even slow at default. Though very realistic.

Not only the gameplay, but the graphics are amazing! Especially when you max everything out and still play at 55-60 FPS [wink].

It's a lot slower than UT games, you know.

Of course, I hate UT games for that very reason :P But FEAR Multiplayer seems to be just on the edge of being too fast. Sometimes it's too much, sometimes it's okay.

Ugh, the UT games are like sonic the hedgehog with guns. And multiplayer.

uhhh, ok maybe I was on a server with a crazy speed setting.
Actually I played on at least 2 different servers, they must have both had the same setting.

Because yes it was really really really really really goddamn fast. Something like the Painkiller vid that Omid Ghavami posted.

It's definately NOT that fast. Not even anywhere NEAR that fast.

I'll post a video in a few minutes of how fast it is for me (640x480 - otherwise it's a 1gig file).

Here we go. Sorry for hosting it on RapidShare, but YouTube would've made me upload it for more than an hour.

As you can see, it's pretty slow. Realistic.
