In case there is anyone here who was interested enough in the development of my game Project Phoenix to track it I'm posting a bit of an update... The reason why i've been so quiet recently (although I know that is probably a good thing [grin]) is that i've been working on completely overhauling the gameplay of the game (and getting ready to go off to college [crying]). I've expanded player motion to put rotation into practical use (that is... there is now a point in using it) and consequently i've changed the function of the left and right arrow keys. They are now mapped to left rotation (that is, angle+=2) and right rotation (that is, angle-=2). The up arrow now moves the player in whatever direction they are pointing and the down arrow moves the player backwards. i've also expanded the map so that the player can now move across a large area (and the background scrolls accordingly). Basically, the changes are very cool... Gameplay is alot more fun now, even in simple motion. The problem is, hence the title of this thread, that i'm having a terrible time rewriting the enemy ship AI to work with this new movement system. The targeting portion of the AI works now (sort of) but isn't very good yet, I can't quite get enemy motion to work properly, and Even keeping the ship drawn at the proper position is difficult. This is mainly the aftermath of adding rotation to the enemy ships... Basically, the coordinate system gets a bit confused. Not to mention that collision detection does not occur at the same level of depth as ship drawing and such (they occur at 0 in the z, and the ships themselves are drawn at 0.1 on the z). So yeah... i've definately got alot of work to do. Unfortounately, I might not have too much coding time as I leave for school tomorrow morning [bawling]. But i'll work on it when I can, and when I can get myself to do so (lazy lazy me).
There was a saying we had in college: Those who walk into the engineering building are never quite the same when they walk out.

Update: unfortunately, i've literally done no work at all on my game in the past couple days (moving in at school, etc) but i'll try to get to work on it soon.
