C#/XNA for small stuff, C++/DX10 for serious projects imo.

Odd. Initially I got a "The download you requested is unavailable" message so I went and logged into my MSDN account to see if it was there. Unless it's filed under something under then XNA it's not on MSDN Premium yet, but when I went back to the original link it showed the download. So do you need to be logged in to see it? And I thought I had signed up for the beta program that would send me an email when it was available. Did you find this by accident or was there an announcement somewhere?

I got it off the MS downloads center. At first I got that error two, and after a couple minutes it worked. I guess it just needs to replicate to all servers or something.
Also, as far as I could tell, you don't need to be signed in to MSDN Premium. I'm not sure if I was even signed up with my passport. It should be an open beta.

I've been hearing a lot about the "C# only" for XNA, can anyone confirm that this is actually the case? As I understood it, XNA/Indie development was managed only, so that you couldn't use unsafe code to mess with your or other peoples XBoxs. That would mean you should be able to use any managed language, as they all compile to the same .NET assemblies (you could thus program an XBox 360 game in VB.NET or even COBOL.NET)

Right now, its just a Project Template you use with C#. Don't think it would work with any other managed language.

I got the "download is unavailable" message at first too, I just hit refresh and it worked.

As for language support. It's a pair of .NET assemblies coupled with custom project templates for VC# Express. There are custom MSBuild tasks in there somewhere, I think, though I need to dig deeper. It should be perfectly possible to use other languages, though things might be akward. Same with regular editions of VS 2k5.

ohh the noes!
i got a problem with the XNA, I can't test it on my machine :(
i think it is because i have the windows x64 installed :(
it gives me the same error that other managed apps did, but in the Standard version of Visual Studio I can change the target platform to x86 and it fixes the problem, it has something like this...
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
but the XNA GS or Express Edition does not...
Does anybody knows how to bypass this?

At this time XNA will be restricted to PC development only. If they continue to support only C# Express, then you will be unable to build Managed C++ code for the Xbox 360. However, in theory since the XNA assemblies are just assemblies, you should be able to link to them from Managed C++ for your PC builds. The downfall is that you will loose support for the Content Pipeline, and other IDE spefic features in XNA Express. Plus you will be restricted to PC builds only. The XNA team is looking for feedback on which languages you would like to see included in the future. Please keep in mind, that this is an early beta release. Much can change before the final release.

I'd report this issue as a bug.

Do a search in the XNA forums, I believe the XNA team has said that Win64 would not be supported in the beta version. In fact David Wellers blog says its not supported somewhere as well. They are looking into supporting it in the future. Sorry, I'd post the link but my internet at work is sucking right now.

Does anyone have any experience installing C# Express on the same machine as a full Visual Studio install (Visual Studio Team Suite Edition). Any conflicts?

I just installed C# Express with VS Team Suite 2005 and it went without a hitch.

1. Getting it to work on x64 - see http://exdream.no-ip.info/blog/PermaLink.aspx?guid=8962e9a7-3185-438d-882a-e8e919771dc2

2. Express works just fine alongside Pro/Team etc.

3. Yes at the moment its c# only. Someone did post IronPython conversions on the MSDN forums but officially it only installs the add-ins to c# express. There has been no mention of when/if other languages will be supported.
