Well, for Isometric, I usually use MS Paint. It's tough to do isometric in pretty much any other program. There aren't many other programs that are that suited to pixel-by-pixel work. I'm no artist, though, so I'm sure that some other people prefer some other programs.

Anyhow, there's a tutorial somewhere (I'm thinking page 5) in the "Sprites, sprites, and more sprites" thread (stickied in For Beginners) that describes how to make isometric tiles. It might be helpful.

ok but i heard there is programs that are specialy for it can anybody tell me some. i really need to learn this stuff. i need to make sprites like the oes from final fantasy tactics advanced. Can anybody give me some tutorials on that. i spose u wouldn't call them isometrical sprites but more like creativly designed sprites that give u the illusion of 3d. lol maybe if someonce can just give me some sprites from final fantaasy and i can work from there.

FFT:A sprites are isometric sprites, and you can make them in any graphics program with a Pencil tool. I dont know of any programs that make isometric sprites specifically, it really just comes down to practice. (Though it seems that a program that DOES make isometric sprites would be neat to have, I wonder if its possible...)

But youre on the right track. Find some screenies of FFT:A, which you can get on any game site like GameSpy or IGN and open the characters up in Paint, then try to create them from scratch yourself. Then simply use those techniques to make your own unique sprites. :)

Good luck!

I used to use Paint and some other tools (Wally, iPhoto Plus 4, Paint Shop Pro) when I created textures for Half-Life. Especially Wally had some interesting features, like displaying a single image tiled. Nowadays however, I've gotten more accustomed to Photoshop, and it's actually quite usefull for pixel art, although I find a lot of the tools not fitting low-level pixel art, it still provides sufficient low-level tools and combined with layers, it's pretty usefull.

Whatever tool you use however, I believe the result depends a lot on skill and experience. I've found this set of tutorials to be pretty usefull. Good luck! :)

I doubt that World Creator will be useful for sprites.

Personally, I recommend Graphics Gale. It's like MS Paint, but with layers and animation features.

I'm thinking the program's called MicroAngelo.. it's a program for making icons.. but it's a fantastic pixel by pixel sprite tool.. the images of course can be exported and saved in formats other then .ico files, so you can use it for sprite making.. it's really cheap from what i remember.. but a program to consider with the others.

Curious that everybody thinks of pixelart when it comes to isometric graphics here. It's the 21`s century. You can use a 3D render and animation software nowadays. :D

It seems like on your own sprite you've just changed the colours on the cloudsprite and some details, you've got to learn how to create your own stuff from scratch.

There is none. Isometric view is just a matter of the angles. And not a matter of the 3D Software ;)

Ah, forgot to mention, you need a bit patience. As 2D, 3D is mainly an artistic act. But in 3D you also need to learn several tools and techniques. Ways more than in 2D. Which needs its time. Talking about years here :)

Poser can make 3d sprites easily enough with the following steps:

Load character model, create animation sequences.

Set camera to 'top' camera (orthographic), tilt the character model about 45 degrees or until the view in the display window is what you want. Render the image as a bitmap (or tiff if you want alpha information for antialiasing).

Repeat process for each frame of animation and direction you want the character to face in.

This is just a rough guide, but is similar to what I have done in my own games. There are plenty of props/clothing/characters available to purchase for this sort of thing on daz3d.com.

Hope this is of some help.
